King Fades to Black

Larry King Goes Black

For some December 16th, 2010 will be a sad day. For most others, it was no different than the rest. To inform those out of the loop, CNN’s Larry King did his last show in his evening slot. The TV talker spent 25 years behind a CNN microphone.

King’s first network slot was on the Mutual Broadcasting System in 1978. I remember hearing him on a station at which I was a program director. His unusual voice and pacing made King easy to identify. Apparently, his presentation was a winner as MBS hit over 500 stations carrying King’s Midnight to Five a.m. radio broadcasts.

The butt of endless jokes over the years, King gets the last laugh, since he probably outlasted all of his fellow radio announcers.
